Blazers Suspend Miles for Outburst

Trail Blazers F Darius Miles was suspended for two games yesterday after a verbal clash with Coach Maurice Cheeks during a film session.

Portland suspended Miles for conduct detrimental to the team and insubordination.

"I am disappointed that we've had this distraction to deal with today," Blazers President Steve Patterson said in a statement. "We expect a certain behavior from everyone in our organization, and what happened yesterday is not acceptable behavior."

Cheeks, who characterized Miles' comments as inappropriate, said that the player "blew up in the film session."

In a statement released by the team, Miles said: "Things were said in frustration and I am sorry for that. It is very important to me that our fans understand that I am committed to winning and that the losses we have had this season have been difficult for all of us."

INJURIES: The Hornets placed G Baron Davis, the team's leading scorer, on the injured list with a bruised right Achilles' tendon. To replace Davis on the roster, New Orleans signed G Junior Harrington to a 10-day contract. . . .

The Knicks placed Allan Houston on the injured list, a setback in the guard's comeback from knee surgery, and activated Gs Penny Hardaway and Moochie Norris. . . .

The Celtics placed rookie F Al Jefferson (ankle sprain) on the injured list and activated rookie Justin Reed.
