Cozies for the Toesies

Thursday, January 6, 2005; Page C02

Spending the day lounging in an old college tee, sweats and a pair of slippers ranks close to perfection.

This season's slippers are lined with shearling, flannel and faux fur, embellished with rhinestones and sequins and come in candy hues like aqua and pink. Slippers have always been decorative, writes Colin McDowell in "Shoes: Fashion and Fantasy": "fine silks and satins, richly embroidered and using the latest colours, they were indisputably gorgeous."

From the top: Cole Haan outdoor shearling slippers in burgundy, $115 at Neiman Marcus or neimanmarcus.com. Cotton flannel slippers in pink and green, $20 at Talbots and talbots.com. Tahoe Fuzzy Slipper in aqua, $19.99 at Ann Taylor Loft or anntaylorloft.com. Old Navy pink slippers with rhinestones, $14.50 at Old Navy stores. Ruby & Ed satin sequined slippers, $28 at Anthropologie stores. Wicked Good moccasins, $44 at LLBean.com. Candy check slipper in pink, $75 at Burberry, 1155 Connecticut Ave. NW. While some slippers are strictly for indoor use, others can withstand a quick trip outside for coffee, newspapers and other necessities. Men's slippers -- with rubber soles for durability -- are especially up for the task.

Or at least that's what we tell them.
