The major U.S. stock indexes fell last week as rising oil prices took center stage.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 1.3 percent to close the week at 10,629.67. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index fell 0.9 percent to finish at 1,189.65.

The Nasdaq Stock Market composite index closed at 2,007.79, down 1.65 percent to its lowest finish of the year.

Stocks in the Washington region fared better, though.

The Washington Post-Bloomberg regional index closed Friday at 262.22, down .07 for the week.
