Welcome to The Guide

Thursday, April 21, 2005; Page HO02

This special edition of Howard Extra, produced by a team of Washington Post editors, reporters, editorial aides, photographers and artists, is a comprehensive guide to our community. We provide important information about how to get around the area, where to shop, how to contact elected officials, and where to go when you need help or you want to help.

We have also included an essay by Washington Post reporter Allison Klein, a Wilde Lake High School graduate, about growing up in Columbia. Special features such as John Kelly's Washington give you the lowdown on how certain bridges got their names, and food writer Nancy Lewis surveys many of the best restaurants in the Howard area. If you're looking for cool activities for children, check "Fun Things to Do, With or Without Kids."

Many features that regularly appear in Extra can be found today on washingtonpost.com/howard and will resume in their regular spots in the issue of April 28.

We hope you enjoy The Guide and find it helpful. We welcome your suggestions and will be updating The Guide on washington post.com/theguide as new information about the community becomes available.
