What: Leonardo Da Vinci's "The Last Supper"

Claim to Fame: Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code" reignited public interest in this peeling masterpiece, created between 1495 and 1498. Make a (required) reservation to see the fading fresco and decide for yourself just who is the long-haired beaut next to Jesus.

What: Johannes Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring"

Where: The Hague, at Mauritshuis

Claim to Fame: A 17th-century peasant maid modeled for this painting with the turned head, blue-and-gold turban and haunting eyes that centuries later inspired a novel, which in turn spawned a movie. A visit may reveal the small brush hairs supposedly trapped in the pigment.
