Who to watch: A Trevor Casey, Soph. (20 goals); MF Nick Miaritis, Sr. (16 goals); DM Brodie Merrill, Sr. (first-team all-American last year).

Why to watch: At least four members of a talented freshman class are expected to play right away. Overall, eight of the freshmen were high school all-Americans last year. Improvement will be easy to gauge. The seniors are 34-11 in their careers -- but are 0-4 against Syracuse, 0-2 against Maryland and 1-2 against Massachusetts.

MARYLAND

Last year's record: 13-3; lost to Princeton, 9-8 in overtime, in the NCAA quarterfinals.

Coach: Dave Cottle, third season.

Schedule: Today, Georgetown, 3 p.m.; March 5, Duke, 1; 12, at Towson, 1; 15, at Bucknell 3; 19, UMBC, 1; 22, Dartmouth in Boca Raton, Fla., 7; 26, North Carolina, 1; April 2, at Virginia, 3; 8, at Navy, 7; 15, Johns Hopkins, 8; 23, at Fairfield, 1; 29-31, ACC tournament, Baltimore, TBA; May 7, at Penn, 1.

Tickets: $5 adults, $3 children 17-under.

Who to watch: MF Brendan Healy, Jr. (18 goals); MF Bill McGlone, Jr. (25 goals); A Joe Walters, Jr. (46 goals, 22 assists).

Why to watch: Could be the lacrosse version of the 1980 San Diego Chargers: The four leading scorers are back; the three starting defensemen and goalie are not. Attackman Mike Phipps has to score given that he likely will draw short-stick defenders, at least initially. Defender Gavin Webb is the only starting senior.
