WHY: You can study with a particular instructor with no regular-life distractions -- and prices are often reasonable.
EXAMPLES:
* Tranquil Space, a studio in Dupont Circle, is leading a workshop Nov. 5-7 in Yogaville, an ashram in Buckingham, Va. The trip costs $275 per person double and includes lodging, vegetarian meals and instruction. Details: 202-223-YOGA, www.tranquilspace.com.
* D.C.'s Inward Bound has a workshop in Harpers Ferry, W. Va., on Oct. 15-17. The event will be at the Hilltop House Hotel and costs $380 per person double, including lodging, vegetarian meals and instruction. Details: 800-760-5099, www.inwardboundadventures.com.
* At One Yoga, a Phoenix studio, has weekend workshops with renowned teachers Seane Corn (October) and Steve Ross (November). Classes are $35 to $50 each, with an average of three classes per workshop. Details: 602-954-YOGA, www.atoneyoga.com.
• DO IT YOURSELF
WHAT: Search for yoga studios convenient to your hotel/cottage/RV camp using the Internet, guidebooks or other resources. Then buy a daily or weekly pass at the yoga studio. To find a studio, see the resources listed below.
WHY: Whether you're on the road for a wedding or visiting with the in-laws, you may need to take the edge off the stress.
EXAMPLE: Say you're going to Miami. You can buy a pass to Synergy, a studio on Espanola Way, a pedestrian thoroughfare in South Beach filled with cafes. The studio offers different classes each day, from "sweaty" (the instruction room is heated to 90-plus degrees) to gentle (soothing and slower paced). Day passes are $14, one-week passes $50.
