Tickets to watch the Virginia Cavaliers play in the MPC Computer Bowl in Boise, Idaho, on Dec. 27 start at $50 and are available at 800-542- UVA1 or www.virginiasports.com,as are packages. But instead of laying out $295 per night for a package offering a double room at the official bowl hotel, the Doubletree, consider the nearby Shilo Inn for $56 a night. Anyone with a mouse or travel agent should be able to beat the package prices to the Nokia Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, where Virginia Tech will take on Auburn University Jan. 3. At press time, game tickets beginning at $200 were available through the official Nokia tour operator (888-299-1997, www.bigeasy.com). The operator at press time was also offering packages that include a ticket, as was University Travel (www.universitytravel.com).

For Las Vegas: www.vegas.com/newyears. . . Air Polonia, one of Europe's embattled low-cost carriers, ran out of money and grounded all flights last week.
