Blimpie to Start Restaurants in Wal-Marts

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Sandwich maker Blimpie International Inc. announced Monday it will lease space in more than 100 Wal-Mart stores to run Blimpie Xpress restaurants.
The restaurants will feature subs, salads and wraps, and will also offer breakfast and dinner menu items, Atlanta-based Blimpie said in a news release.
"By locating our restaurants in the world's largest retailer we are able to offer a substantial business opportunity for both Blimpie and the franchisees that will be selected to own and operate these locations," Blimpie president and chief executive Jeff Endervelt said.
The company said the stores are to open this year, with the first two locations in Florida, opening in April.
Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has about 2,900 discounts stores and Supercenters in the United States.
In moring trading on the New York Stock Exchange, Wal-Mart shares were up 78 cents at $54.63.
