. . . explored the wonders of the night sky. Since the dawn of recorded time, the stars have held certain fascination for humankind. Luckily for us, stargazing has become a bit more sophisticated. Sure, you can head to the Einstein Planetarium downtown. But if you don't want to deal with all the tourists, Montgomery College and the University of Maryland offer some of the same stellar sights, including a good look at this Wednesday's lunar eclipse.

The Montgomery College planetarium is on Fenton Street in Takoma Park. A program on eclipses is at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Viewing of the eclipse follows. Call 301-650-1463.
The University of Maryland Observatory, on Metzerott Road in College Park, hosts a public program on the 5th and 20th of each month. Go to www.astro.umd.edu/openhouse.
