Cole Comes Off The Bench to Lead Colonials

Kenan Cole came off the bench to lead the Colonials with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds as George Washington defeated visiting La Salle, 47-46, yesterday.

Anna Montañana led all Colonials starters with 11 points and six rebounds. Guard Davieneia Payne led La Salle with 15 points and had nine rebounds.

Despite holding La Salle to only 26 percent shooting in the first half, the Colonials trailed by two at the midway point, but outscored the Explorers 28-25 in the second half to pull out the victory.

La Salle could not convert any field goals during the final 40 seconds, ensuring the loss.

• VIRGINIA 57, WAKE FOREST 54: The Cavaliers ended their regular season with a win over the Demon Deacons before a season-high 7,001 fans at University Hall in Charlottesville.

Wake Forest (14-13, 3-11 ACC) led by as many as 12 points and held an 11-point edge at halftime, 37-26. Virginia opened the second half with a 16-2 run to take its biggest lead, 42-39, with 13 minutes 40 seconds to go and held Wake Forest scoreless for the last 3:10 to seal the win.

Senior LaTonya Blue paced the Cavaliers (19-9, 8-6) with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Fellow senior Jocelyn Logan-Friend added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

• VCU 62, GEORGE MASON 56: In their final appearance in the ALLTEL Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, three of Virginia Commonwealth's four seniors scored in double digits to help the Rams outlast visiting George Mason in a crucial Colonial Athletic Association contest in Richmond.

Senior Meagan Evans led all scorers with 17 points, while classmate Lauren Hogan registered her 21st career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior Maria Giovannetti earned her 12 points at the foul line, as she sank a career-high 12 on a personal-best 14 attempts.

• VIRGINIA TECH 90, MIAMI 45: All five starters for the Hokies registered in double figures in scoring as Tech built upon a 27-point halftime lead, routing the visiting Hurricanes in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The Hokies never trailed in the contest.
