Stocks advanced last week, powered by an upbeat report on economic growth and some consumer inflation data that didn't rattle investors.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.5 percent to close the week at 10,841.60. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index jumped 0.8 percent to 1,211.37. The Nasdaq Stock Market composite index gained 0.3 percent to close at 2,065.40.

Stocks in the Washington region also headed up. The Washington Post-Bloomberg regional stock index closed Friday at 265.01, a gain of 1.60 for the week.
