Science Team Victorious
Last month a team from Robert Frost Middle School won first place in the Virginia/Maryland Regional Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The team will compete in June in the national competition in Colorado. The bowl includes two parts -- an academic competition and a fuel-cell car competition.
The five team members are seventh-graders Zohair Asmail, Krzysztof Franaszek, Christian Haudenschild, Sherwin Heydarbeygi and Jacob Hurwitz. Their advisers are parent Clara Asmail and Martin Pratt, a physics teacher at Wootton High School.
In addition to individual medallions and a team trophy, the team received $750 for the school.
Student Board Finalists
Two finalists for student member of the Board of Education were chosen March 15 by 279 voting middle and high school delegates who attended the Student Member of the Board of Education Nominating Convention.
Sebastian Johnson, a junior at Montgomery Blair High School, and Nadia Sicard, a junior at John F. Kennedy High School, were selected last week as finalists for student member of the Board of Education.
They were chosen from seven candidates. All secondary students will have a chance to vote for one of the two candidates April 27.
