McDonald Bradley Inc. plans to hire about 51 people in the next month. Ken Bartee, president and chief executive, talked with The Post's Andrea Caumont.
your company do?
We are a government information technology contractor. We do software development and systems integration work. Our largest clients are in the Department of Defense and intelligence community. We also have a large practice in the homeland security law enforcement areas. About a quarter of our work comes from the civil agencies, including HUD, FDIC and the Treasury. In the Department of Defense we're doing significant software development in the data-sharing area. Obviously one of the big issues after September 11 is how these agencies share their data. We've been writing applications to make that possible.
What do you think your employees would say are the best reasons for working at your company?
I think the teamwork atmosphere here is one of the biggest reasons. The technical challenges have also been significant. We're using a lot of current technologies they like to be working in, including Java and XML.
Who owns your company?
We are privately held and predominantly owned by employees of the company. We're not an ESOP, but the stock ownership is owned by everyone from senior managers to technical workers.
What are the demographics of your company?
We're 33 percent female and 37 percent minority. Within the seven-person executive management team, we are 30 percent female and 14 percent minority.
What positions do you have available, and what level of expertise do you want?
The majority of the positions we're hiring for require security clearances at some level. We're looking for software developers, with Java and XML backgrounds. We're also looking for folks that have help-desk backgrounds in the law-enforcement area and software engineers who can develop software and integrate it with other applications. We have training positions available working with the Department of Justice. We also have Web developer positions open. . . . We're mostly looking for junior-level up through senior-level folks.
