SURFIN' TURF. The world's top pro surfers -- and about 300 amateurs -- show off their carving in pursuit of $35,000 in prizes at the East Coast Surfing Championships (Aug. 25-29), the country's oldest continuously running surfing contest. Held in Virginia Beach since 1963, the event features skimboarding contests, Mahi Mah's volleyball tournament and 8K runs, with bands like Remedy Motel and DaDa providing a live soundtrack.
