Spring Arts: Film Calendar
"Broken Wings" is about Dafna (Silbersatz Banai), an Israeli mother of four who must cope with the loss of her husband.
"Hero," Zhang Yimou's elegant period film with high-wire special effects reminiscent of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," has a pantheon of Chinese stars, including Jet Li, Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung and Ziyi Zhang.
"Kill Bill, Vol. 2," the second half of Quentin Tarantino's revenge epic, stars Uma Thurman as a formidable martial artist hellbent on killing her ex-lover (David Carradine).
22 -- "Sacred Planet" appreciates some of the world's natural wonders, including the forests of British Columbia and the glaciers of Alaska.
23 -- "Bon Voyage" observes the consternation faced by a diverse group of Parisians (Gerard Depardieu, Isabelle Adjani, Virginie Ledoyen and others) on the eve of the German occupation of Paris.
"Saved," another teen girl clique film, is about the enmity a high school girl (Jena Malone) suffers when she becomes pregnant.
"Man on Fire" stars Denzel Washington as a Marine-turned-bodyguard who has to find the missing daughter (Dakota Fanning) of a family in Mexico.
"Since Otar Left," a French-language film, is about three women living in economically depressed, post-Soviet Georgia.
"13 Going on 30," by Gary Winick, is about a 13-year-old girl whose wish to become a successful 30-year-old woman is instantly granted.
"I'm Not Scared," an Italian film, is about a young boy who discovers a boy hiding in a wheat field near his town in Southern Italy.
30 -- "Breakin' All the Rules," a hip-hop comedy, is about a heartbroken man (Jamie Foxx) whose book about his breakup becomes a bestseller.
"Godsend" is about a couple (Greg Kinnear and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) who ask a genetic cloner (Robert De Niro) to bring their dead child back to life.
"Laws of Attraction," an updated screwball comedy, is about divorce lawyers (Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore) who find themselves falling in love.
SPRING SOMETIME
"Mindhunters," a thriller from Renny Harlin, is about a group of trainees in the FBI's psychological profiling program who must find a killer in their midst.
MAY
TBD -- "The Agronomist" is a documentary by Jonathan Demme about Haitian radio personality and human rights activist Jean Dominique.
7 -- "New York Minute" stars Mary-Kate and Ashley (do your really need their last name?) Olsen as teenage twin sisters who get into a series of scrapes and high jinks during one eventful day in Manhattan.
"Van Helsing" features Hugh Jackman as legendary monster-tracker Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who here is heading to 19th-century Transylvania to dispatch Dracula, the Wolf Man and Frankenstein's monster. Talk about your Super Tuesday. With Kate Beckinsale as Van Helsing's helpmate, Anna Valerious.
"Rosenstrasse" stars Maria Schrader as a woman who tries to come to terms with her mother's experience during World War II by traveling to Berlin. With Jutta Lampe and Doris Schade, directed by Margarethe von Trotta.
14 -- "Troy" stars Brad Pitt as Achilles in Wolfgang Petersen's action-adventure about the Trojan War. With Orlando Bloom as Paris and Diane Kruger as Helen.
