Former Brigham Young football player Tom Holmoe was promoted to athletic director, taking over the department he helped oversee for the last six months.

Holmoe was a defensive back for BYU from 1978 to 1982 and assistant under former coach LaVell Edwards. He has been an administrator at the school for the past three years.

Holmoe replaces Val Hale and Elaine Michaelis, who were fired abruptly last fall when the university announced it was combining its men's and women's athletic departments into one. . . .

Kathi Bennett has resigned after five seasons as women's basketball coach at Indiana. The Hoosiers are 10-13 this season going into the Big Ten tournament, where they are the No. 9 seed after a 3-13 conference record.

Bennett is 72-74 during her time at Indiana. The Hoosiers went 20-11 during her first season in 2000-01, and won the 2002 Big Ten tourney to gain an NCAA tournament bid.
