LOS ANGELES, April 18 -- Veteran late-night talk show host Tom Snyder says he has been diagnosed with leukemia, although doctors assure him his condition is treatable with "pills or chemotherapy or both."

In a statement on his Web site, the 68-year-old former host of NBC's "Tomorrow" and CBS's "Late Late Show With Tom Snyder" identified his illness as chronic lymphocytic leukemia after tests were performed to determine the cause of night sweats, abdominal bloating and lack of stamina.

He said his younger brother recently received the same diagnosis.

"My doctors assure me this is nothing to worry about, and I have to accept that, I guess," Snyder wrote. "They say this kind of leukemia is not fatal, that people can live with it for 30 years. Notice, they don't say people will live 30 years. . . . I have made one decision today: I am now actively spending my heirs' inheritance."
