Every Thursday at 1 p.m. ET, washingtonpost.com's Entertainment Guide experts share their best bets for local flavor, great dates and family fun. Got plans? Great. Need plans? Just ask. We have the skinny on the bars and clubs, concerts, kitchens, theaters and special events that keep life interesting. We're going out gurus, and we're at your service.
Of course, we're happy to answer questions about local entertainment, but we need to hear from you, too. Introduce us to the coolest DJ or the fastest bartender you've encountered. Sound off on the week's best concert or the city's best burger. Tell us about the best place to amuse little kids or a big art fan. Together we can plan fun ways to spend weekdays, weekends, dates and holidays. The pleasure is ours, and yours.
Each week a different guru will act as host or hostess, but the entire staff is at your service. If you're looking for more ideas, see the Entertainment Guide.

The Going Out Gurus:
This chat just crept up on us, considering the Terps are in battle at this very moment and the Artist Formerly Known as Black Mike is getting hemmed up! He rolled into court in his PJ's! As we tear ourselves away from this gripping breaking news, I'm glancing at the queue and noticing that I can knock out a bunch of questions off the bat with this link here. Feeeeel the interactivity. And now, I bring you your regularly scheduled chat.

Hey guys, love the chat! Kind of a random question but do any of you know if there are any spray tan places in DC (you know where you stand in a booth and get plastered in tanning lotion?) I'm pale redhead who burns and am heading to the beach in a few weeks and refuse to be the only ghost on the sand! THANKS!
Janet: Yes, indeed, there are those sorts of places in the D.C. area where you can get a fake bake, so to speak. For example, there's At the Beach on Wisconsin Ave., and you can find additional places if you look at the Web site for Mystic Tan. Have a blast at the beach and remember, just because you have a tan, you still will need sunscreen.

On Saturday night, I'm going to a late (10pm) Washington Improv Theater show with some friends at Flashpoint at 9th and G. Before that we'd like to watch the ACC Tournament at a bar nearby (since we don't have tix!;). ESPN Zone would be fun, but maybe too crowded? Any other suggestions?
GO DUKE!;
Fritz: Skip the overpriced, overrated ESPN Zone. If you're a Duke fan, I've heard the alumni are gathering at the JW Marriott Hotel at 13th and Penn NW.

For the person who asked about "Threading" for your eyebrows. There is a place called Threads at 14th and L St. NW. My co-workers and I love it and find it much less painful than waxing.
Janet: Thanks for the tip on that. Would love to try it myself, even though I'm a fan of the old-fashioned tweezing method.

Hi GOGs!
After about 6 months in DC I have yet to keep my resolution of visiting all the great (and free) museums around town. I'm going to head to the National Gallery this weekend- is the Terrace Cafe's Sunday jazz brunch worthwhile? I thought I'd try to get in before the crowds for the Lautrec/Montmatre start up (and maybe head back later this sprin for that!). Or if not, any other good dining in/around the musuem I should check out? Thanks!
Maura: If you've never been, I would definitely give the jazz brunch a try. The East Building's terrace cafe is probably the museum's prettiest restaurant and the jazz music is a great touch (the menu is straightforward but by next Sunday they'll be switching their menu over to something French-inspired with the opening of Toulouse-Lautrec). It's a great time to see the museum's other shows (as it will be super-crowded by next Sunday's opening). I just caught a second look at the Kertesz show and loved it even more this time around.

last week - but I can't find showtimes anywhere. Do you
have any idea where it's playing? If not in DC, in New
York?
Thanks.
Jen: "The Best of Youth" is playing at Film Forum in New York City. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about it coming to Washington.

I just returned from a trip to London and am now obsessed with the drink, "snakebite" which is half a pint of lager with half a pint of cider and a splash of blackcurrant. I keep hearing that it ought to be made with english beers though. Is there no chance of my getting this drink here in D.C.?
Fritz: Ah, Snakebite. There aren't too many English lagers on draft around here -- most bars stock ales -- so you may have to settle for, say, Harp. I'm pretty sure Fado and Biddy Mulligan's have Strongbow Cider on, so they should be able to make one for you.

I know this has been asked before, but where can I get my jeans hemmed, the kind where the bottom seam still shows? Thank you!
Janet: My first suggestion would be to have them hemmed where you bought them and tell the tailor or whoever what you want. If that's not possible, I found a Website that gives a step-by-step description of how to do it yourself: Hem Like a Pro. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Hey all. Happy, Thursday? Awhile back you had some info on Bars/Restaurants that had mixology classes. Any other locations (besides the Ritz) where you know of that would offer some non-professional bartending lessons?
Fritz: I think some of the young professionals groups do this from time to time; try prosinthecity.com or thingstododc.com, and I know tastedc.com just hosted one recently.
I could swear, though, that someone told me about another bar that was going to start offering classes. Can someone refresh my memory?

Hey Gurus! Do you know anything about the new bar/restaurant in the Courthouse area called The Music Box? I was going to go in one night, but a gynormous mannequin woman at the door scared me away...what kind of spot is this?
Fritz: The Pam Anderson-style mannequin at the door is indeed scary. I've been a couple of times -- it's right down the street, innit -- but haven't really been impressed with the bar itself. Nice montage of vintage record sleeves on the wall, okay jukebox, average bar food.
I do like the Wil Gravatt Band, though, who play classic, Willie-and-Waylon-and-the-Boys country there on Thursday nights. You can read more about them in tomorrow's Weekend section.

Thanks for the blog about the U-2 concert coming up in October. I've got about 5-6 friends who want to go as well. Is there a place that will be easier to purchase tix for this event/get better choice of seats (ie. on-line, Hechts, Old Post Office, Warner Theater) or am I better off going to MCI Center for this purchase? When should I go, if I need to hit MCI? Is there a ticket limit per person? Will they take credit cards this Saturday? Any other information you care to provide would be appreciated.
David: Well, you could go to MCI Center, but with the ACC Tournament semi-finals tipping off there early that afternoon, it might be a pretty crazy scene. Personally, I'm increasingly skeptical of actually going somewhere to get tickets. With thousands of people trying to get them online, there's always a chance that only the first few people in line will get lucky. So my vote is to find a fast internet connection and try that. As far as ticket limits, there is an 8 ticket limit per person, but of those 8 tickets, you can only get 2 of the general admission floor seats. Credit cards will be accepted, and they better be, because I don't think ATM machines let you take out enough money to get even two of the higher priced tickets. Best of luck in whatever you decide. These shows are guaranteed sell-outs, and that means (unfortunately) scalpers and ticket brokers will be doing everything they can to get tickets as well.

So I've got a spate of relatives coming into town at the end of next week, and they've asked me to pick a restaurant for about eight of us. They'd like somewhere quiet, not that expensive, child-friendly, Metro-accessible (preferably downtown) and that takes reservations. And I'm stumped. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Alexa: I might suggest somewhere like Chef Geoff's for friendly and unpretentious. The Austin Grill might fit your bill, though It might not be quiet enough. Or, in that same neck of the woods, Andale. You could ask for their little ante-chamber.

Hey gurus--a couple of questions about entertaining my boyfriend's mom next weekend. She's seen and done just about everything downtown, so we're thinking about taking her to the National Cathedral on Sunday for the view and to see the grounds. There's a concert there that day, though--do you think we'll still be able to get in and look around? Also, have any of you been to the jazz cafe on Friday nights at the Natural History museum? Wondering if it's worth going to before heading to dinner. Thanks!;
Maura: There will be a concert on Sunday at 5, but keep in mind there will also be Sunday services. Neither are probably a good time to tour the Cathedral. Here's the schedule for Sunday. If you can tour in the early afternoon and definitely check out the grounds. While they may not be in spring bloom, they're some of the nicest in town.
As for the Jazz Cafe, they have a pretty strong line up. The setting is a simple one, but if you like jazz, I would check it out.

How is the bar at the Mandarin Oriental on Thursday nights? What is the crowd like (I'm a twentysomething girl)? I am looking for somewhere to get drinks that is quieter than Smith Point or Third Edition, but more going on than Degrees at the Ritz. Probably around 10, any thoughts or suggestions?
Fritz: I really want to like the Empress Lounge, but while the drinks are innovative and well made, they're expensive ($13-15 cocktails) and it's usually dead. They have a piano player, which is nice, but if you're looking for something lively, I'd stay away.
Suggestions ... 10 p.m. on a Thursday seems to be boom or bust lately when I've been out -- either lots of people or pretty slow. Any suggestions for Friendship Heights?

Random Question: What is a barback?
Fritz: There are two answers:
1. It's the person who helps out the bartenders, collecting glasses, grabbing new bottles of liquor, etc.
2. It's the actual cabinet/shelves/structure behind the bar, usually in pubs, that holds all the bottles, glasses, etc.

You GOGs rock! Ok, here's a tough one. Had an opportunity to go to the Academy Awards last weekend but it fell through. Since then I've been kicking myself. Any info on any upcoming parties/events (think redcarpet movie premier or P Diddy's birthday) that I could land myself some face time with one of Hollywood or the fashion industry's famous?
Jen: I don't know if this helps, but the Creative Coalition (the lobbying group for the entertainment industry) participates in Arts Advocacy Day next week. The big breakfast is on Tuesday; not quite an Oscar-caliber crowd, but Joe Pantoliano, Kerry Washington (from "Ray") and some other folks will be there. There's often a party the night before, but I'm not sure where it will be held this year. You're on the Hill, though, so I bet one of your colleagues might know. Don't know about any upcoming red carpet premieres, but readers, please share if I'm forgetting something.

Hi - I've lived around Adams Morgan for years, and have always been curious about Pasta Mia. Is the pasta there really THAT good to justify the wait.
I know that there's a lack of homey italian places in the area, but I was never convinced that this place would be worth the wait.
Same goes for the Diner. I do love their desserts and Hoegaarden, but you can get great sandwiches at Meze (lunch menu) or Po'Boys over the road at the New Orleans Cafe. Not to mention So's Your Mom, Amsterdam Felafel, L'Enfant Cafe etc etc. Why stand in the cold outside the Diner for half an hour when there are so many other options?
Rhome: The line of folks snaking down the street from Pasta Mia in ALL weather conditions has failed 100% of the time to make me curious about the food. Can anyone who has eaten there shed some light? It does perk up my amateur anthropologist tendencies though. Maybe I could do some sort of Heavy Metal Parking Lot thing with the line standees some day.

Fritz: Something newish? Have you tried the recently rennovated Felix? Hot new drink menu that's more Blue Gin-influenced than the old "Cosmos and 'Martinis'" list. I had a Mango Caipirinha that was quite nice, and the minimalist decor is quite comfortable.

Hey GOGs!; Truly devoted fan of these chats and always in awe of your knowledge. Couple months ago I was in NYC and had the incredible fortune to go to Crobar in the Meatpacking District. My best friend is coming up to visit this weekend from Texas and I wanted some advice about where we should go. He's gay and I'm not, and I just moved here in October, so I'm pretty clueless as to the scene. Back in Houston we'd usually hit up the straight bars and then before last call head over to the gay bars for late night. I'm pretty sure we'll be in Georgetown Saturday night (at least to start off), but other than that the weekend is wide open. Oh, and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to gay bars that get their share of straight women.
Fritz: Depends on what your friend is looking for. Halo is a very stylish (though crowded) lounge and bar that draws a primarily gay crowd for cocktails. Nice relaxed, though cruisey, vibe. Titan Bar, above Hamburger Mary's, is fun. Cobalt is more of a dance club with a lounge downstairs. JR's is very popular pub, but it's not one of my favorites.

I just returned from a trip to Italy and me and my husband are looking for good places to buy wine where the staff is knowledgeable and there is a decent selection (we are focused on Italian now, but really we just love wine)! People have pointed me towards Best Cellars, but I was wondering if you had a favorite wine purchasing spot-we are willing to drive a bit. Thanks for your help!
Alexa: I go to the Daily Planet, owned by the Tallula/Evening Star/Vermillion folks, that's on Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray. And once you've been there and done that, you can head down to Cheesetique (good store/ghastly name) to pick up a cheese to have with that wine.

If there are any alt rock fans left in DC, a want to recommend the Ash show at the Black Cat. Ash is a fantastic Brit-rock band; they're superstars across the pond, but they've never quite crossed over. I've seen them live twice, and they always put on a great show. So sad I'm not in town this week or I'd drag all my friends along to see it!
Joe: Ash is ash. No, just kidding. We're happy to pass along your recommendation. I've just been burned on so many hyped Brit bands lately that didn't meet expectations, that I'm a little leery. The Music was horrible. Kasabian was good but not as good as their CD. The Libertines were just average. The Streets was lame (though Dizzee Rascal was pretty great). The Thrills (ok, they're Irish) were also mediocre. But, we'll trust you on Ash. Thanks for the tip. Sorry you're going to miss the show.

I've heard of the Capital View Restaurant at the Capital Hill Hyatt Regency. I've never been to either of these, so any sugg or ideas? Also has anyone ever had the chocolate buffet at the Capitol Hill Hyatt?
Fritz: Hotel Washington isn't open for the season, so that rules that one out right away. (Shame, because I love the views.) If you don't need a bird's eye view, Alexa and Maura suggest the Potowmack Landing, which is right on the Virginia side of the river.

I am dull and boring and tend to be stuck in a rut - dinners out, cooking in, the occasional movie. I've lived in the DC area about a year and still don't feel like I've done much in the city. I'm a mid-20s single female who likes to drink pretty drinks and have stimulating conversation and occasionally shake my rump to something where I can sing along (usually badly). Can you recommend a beginner's course in how to have fun here?
Rhome: It's more a philosophy than the sum of many details. It's all quite simple.
1. Commit to going out and being social. I know this seems too elementary but it's the first step and a lot of folks get stuck on it. If you don't leave your house, all you have is the internet.
2. There are many resources, like us, newspapers, craigslist, friends, co-workers, networking events, etc. Use them! Have you seen the Express weekend pull-out entertainment section lately? It's quite the fun seekers' bonanza.
3. Find your "niche". A regular pickup basketball game, a favorite bartender, a band you really like, a yoga/crafting/cooking/dance clas, etc. These are your go-to options, where there will always be people you like and you can form networks that will lead you to more fun.
4. Once you master 1 through 3, you should get adventurous. When you're engaged in #2, take note of the things you've never tried and/or know nothing about, then go DO THOSE THINGS.

Fritz: Alexa and I don't know, but it could be English. When I bartended in London, we had people ask for Lager Tops (a pint of Fosters or Kronenburg with a splash of Sprite or something), Lager and Lime (ditto, but with a shot of Rose's Lime Juice) or, occasionally, Lager and blackcurrent squash. Alexa used to drink Guinness and blackcurrent when she lived in Sarf London. (And thanks to WHUFC for setting me straight there.)

Just wondering if you caught the letter to the editor last week from some music body lawyer regarding iPod nights and "smash ups" (which are lame).
Basically, making smash-ups constitutes sampling, which is copywrited protected, and playing music in public venues by unliscensed people could also be argued as copyright infringement.
Fritz: Actually, Washington, you don't have to be "licensed" to be a DJ. Restaurants, bars and clubs pay a yearly fee to the publishing rights groups ASCAP and BMI in order to have music played in their establishment. This is a blanket fee that covers everyone who DJs/plays there, including the radio.
As for sampling, that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish, but if you're not selling it, then I understand it's usually considered fair use. (Though I'm not a lawyer.)

Rhome: I'm down with buying my beverages in bulk. 'Twas a recent revelation.

The HI Youth Hostel downtown used to have a travel discussion group that goes to dinner every month or so. Probably a few birds in there? Fun conversation, never the less.
Joe: OK, thanks for the info. I'm sure our friend on K Street will appreciate it.

My birthday is on St. Patrick's Day and I'm looking for a bar where my friends can meet for drinks. They (10-30 post-college grads)will arrive at different times and may want to hop around to other places, but I need a "home base" where they can find me. Irish location not a requirement. Suggestions?
Fritz: Irish probably shouldn't be a requirement, Washington, because with all the lines and cover charges that pubs charge on St. Patrick's Day, you'll be doing more waiting than hopping. (I think going out on St. Patrick's Day is rarely worth the effort.)
Try somewhere low-key in Dupont or Adams Morgan; I might suggest somewhere like Zucchabar, Pharmacy Bar or the Blue Room where you can find each other before heading off.

the stewardesses from virgin atlantic all stay at the westin and usually drink at the hotel bar around 7pm before going out on the town. or so i hear.
Joe: Once again, we're not vouching for any of this. Just passing it along. Happy hunting.

Just wanted to remind the chatters and gurus alike that tonight is Dining Out for Life, benefiting Food & Friends. Over 140 restaurants in the area will give 25-100% of this evening's proceeds back to Food & Friends. A complete list of restaurants is available at www.foodandfriends.org -- thanks so much!
Fritz: A timely reminder; Alexa just blogged about this, noting the restaurants that are giving all their proceeds to charity.

RE: Snakebite:
I'm from the UK, and Snakebite has ALWAYS had blackcurrant in it. It's usually a drink favored by students & goth types. I don't think that "English" lager would make much of a difference. Anyway, most lager in the UK is continental anyway (Stella, 1664, Carlsberg). Of course in Scotland you'd want Tenants or McEwans.
Also - Ash are a good band from a few years back (Girl from Mars, Life Less Ordinary) and they put on a decent show.
Fritz: Yeah, I couldn't think of a really "good" English lager outside Samuel Smith's and Young's (I think it's the Export that they have in most of their pubs).
Thanks for the blackcurrent info, though Alexa swears she never had it in hers.
And I like Ash. Seen them a number of times, always rock harder than you'd expect, and that's saying a lot.

Can you please give me the link for the article about dance lessons in the area. Wedding is coming up soon and do not want to look like a fool. I thought you had posted something like that before. If not, any recommendations for lessons in the VA. area? Thanks!
Maura: We're still looking for that article. Some good bets in the meantime are the Chevy Chase Ballroom, the Ballroom Dance Company and, of course, there's Arthur Murray. If you're looking for pre-weddding lessons, they can help you out. The Joy of Motion also offers ballroom dance courses, if you want to take several lessons. Hope that helps.

Uninspired:
Howdy!; Tomorrow is my 25th birthday - yay quarter century - and although I've told a slew of people to come play with me, I haven't had any time to plan anything. I'm not asking for much, just a place to drink, possibly chat - there'll be about 15 of us or more, and maybe sushi. I'm thinking of doing a happy hour one place and then moving the crew to a more "rest of the evening" sort of spot. Any suggestions in the U Street area? Am I completely hopeless? Give a girl a little inspiration, would ya?
Rhome: You've got 15 folks and that's just no doable for most establishments, especially without reservations. You might want to try Chi-Cha EARLY, since you're down with kicking things off around happy hour time. Otherwise I'd say go with Stetson's or The Saloon.

Hi Guys,
Love the chats. However, you have never answered any of my questions. So please amswer this one. Sometime back there was an article in the Washington Post about events at various consulates/embassies. These were usually evening socials that included wine and maybe appetizers for a nominal fee. The article mentioned a website for information. Does this ring a bell? If it does what is the website? Thanks.
Fritz: Are you thinking of Embassy Events? I've also written about the Embassy Series, which brings world music to various local embassies, and most concerts are followed by open-bar receptions.

Pasta Mia:
I have three words : Waste of Time. It literally tasted like barilla and I had better pasta at the Olive Garden. They also have this rule of no special orders, and by that I mean I got a brisk no when I asked for the sauce on the side, which makes me think everything is just sitting in the back ready and gets microwaved. Save your time!;
Rhome: Downgrade!

Re: Pasta Mias:
I absolutely love Pasta Mias!; Great food made fresh and to your liking, great wine, great price. Fun Italian waiters make it a bit charming too. Make sure you get there at 6:15 for the first seating and you are set.

Help! Family is coming to town for the first time over Easter. We are going to do the Trolley Tour but can you recommend something else for the weekend? Also, a good place for brunch on Easter Sunday??
Thanks! Love the chats!
Anne: This year Easter falls during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, so I would prepare for the city to be extra crowded. There are many festival events to see. I've just checked with the National Arboretum's cherry tree expert, who says because there are so many kinds of trees at the arboretum, some will likely bloom before the ones at the Tidal Basin. If your family includes some early birds, you could go to a sunrise Easter service (often held at Arlington National Cemetery and other memorials) or get in line early for the National Cathedral's service.
Alexa: Easter brunch can be terribly spendy, I always think, and you don't say what kind of price range you seek. Cafe Milano (always fun) has an affair for $60 pp that I find to be a rediculous sum. The Kennedy Center Roof Terrace has a thing going on with the Easter bunny and that (an enormous all-you-can-muster buffet) is under $40. Meanwhile, (and this may be the third time I've mentioned them today because I have their flyer staring at me) Chef Goeff's is doing a "Bountiful Jazz Brunch" for a slim $20.

I'm a woman going to the Ash/Bravery show at the Black Cat tonight alone. How easy and safe will it be for me to catch a cab after the show? Should I call ahead, try to get one right in front, and move with the crowd to U St?
Fritz: You will usually be able to get one outside; cabbies know they have a captive market. If not, you can follow the crowd towards the U Street Metro.

New to the Hill:
Gurus,
I've not hung out on the Hill since I changed jobs (old office was above the Cap. Lounge). Now I hear there are some cool spots over on 8th street. Gonna try to stop in at Finn Mac Cool's and maybe the Ugly Mug around Happy Hour tomorrow - what can I expect. Anywhere else you recommend?
Fritz: Both of those are great choices -- Finn's is crowded and Irish, the Mug has lots of beer and flatscreens and I'm guessing it will be packed with basketball fans. Also consider Ellington's on Eighth (live jazz and blues, good beer selection) and Tapatini's, which offers all-you-can-drink for $20 on Friday nights. The martinis are large and strong, so go slowly.

What's a "smash-up?"
Rhome: A "mash-up" is creating a basic remix by layering the vocals of one tune over the music of another. The biggest ones are usually marriages of contrast, like Method Man over David Bowie or something.

Georgetown to U:
Hey GOG's,
I'm looking to get the heck out of Georgetown this weekend, try some places I've not yet been. I'm looking to go up to U Street on Saturday night with the hopes of stopping in Polly's, Saloon, and maybe New Vegas Lounge. Looking for good beers, good conversation, maybe dancing at the end of the night. Anywhere else we should try? Are these places big enough to accommodate a group of 6-8? Thanks, you guys are great!;
Fritz: Polly's ain't that big, but you may luck out and get a booth. Saloon and New Vegas Lounge are big enough, though Vegas is more of a place to dance to Motown, funk and R&B than sit around and talk over a great beer -- and you'll find in spades at the Saloon.

Just wanted to share a story- went to Cafe Japone last saturday, good time. Although, the songs we gave the waitress that we wanted to sing were never played and the tab came to $300! ouch! note to others- don't buy a lot of shots for a big group of people. Service was decent- as it was crowded and there were a lot of drunken people there. Overall- great time (I think the liquor may have had to do with that), the karaoke was fun (although we didn't sing), sushi was good, drinks were good (although after seeing the bill- no doubtedly overpriced!). Advice- if you go there, go in a small group, pre-game, and order some sushi!
Rhome: Field reports are always welcome.

Petworth:
Is the shopping guru around?
I'm shopping again, for the house. I want some cool deco furniture. I have hit every junk/junque/antique store in a 300 mile radius (Not kidding about that) I have been to all the places on 14th St, and while Reincarnations came closest, I have not yet found the perfect items.
So, can the shopping guru give some suggestions on new or hidden places to find old furniture, or places that sell new deco style stuff? Thanks!;
Oh, and in trade, I offer the information that if one wishes to road trip to Harrisburg PA, there is a very cool mid-century modern store there. www.atomicwarehouse.com (They didn't have what I needed, but I want to be able to shop there ALL THE TIME!;)
Janet: OK, Petworth, so I'm assuming you've gone to all the usual suspects then including Good Eye and Daniel Donnelly, et al. I guess that you've also looked at e-Bay and haven't found what you're looking for. Have you asked the Good Eye folks where you might be able to lay your hands on what you want? Also, there's an independent guy named Robin Rose, who knows everything there is to know about mid-century modern. Thanks for the Harrisburg tip. Sounds like it's worth the miles.

In answer to the jeans question. The best is Gilbert My Tailor on Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown. Across from Five Guys. He's not cheap, but he does a good job. There's also Oxford Tailor's on 31st Street in Georgetown. The woman there can do it too.
Janet: Thanks for that tip.

Oh my god is Pasta Mia amazing!; I was a definite skeptic (I mean a line of yuppies that long is bound to provoke some cynicism), but living just down the street I fought it out on the sidewalk in 20 degree weather with my boygriend. And it was worth it. The sauces are amazing, the pasta is deliciouso, and the house wine is cheap and great. As long as you can put up with the "Soup Nazi" service--no substitutions, no credit cards, no reservations period!;--than it is definitely worth the wait.
Rhome: A convert!

Ah hem advice:
Checked out the hem website. They didn't mention check the thread color you use-bluejeans usually use an orangey-tan color-match the color of the stitching on your jeans and use a heavy weight needle. Most home-use sewing machines won't go through mutiple layers of denim anyway, so test before you cut up your jeans and have to pay someone to do it anyway.
Lots of drycleaners have alteration, hem services-just make sure that your instructions are completely understood and SPECIFIC-otherwise you are likely to get the same hem you'd get on a pair of dress pants.
Good luck!;
Virginia Dressmaker
Janet: Anyone in search of someone to hem jeans, take heed of this dressmaker's advice.

ACC Tourney :
Hi, GOGs!; We're planning on meeting some friends after the Friday night ACC game at the MCI Center. What are some fun bars for mid-20somethings down in that area? Gracias!;
Fritz: This is a chance for me to plug the interactive guide to bars near the MCI Center. Depending on what you like, I'd say Fado, the Irish Channel or Coyote Ugly (hey, some people like it). For cheap drinks, head for the newly reopened Capitol City Brewing Company on H -- they have $2.50 beers and half-price apps from 10 to close.

Re Jeans hemming:
There is a tailor shop in Tysons Galeria on the top floor...I recently took a pair of Rock and Republics there, and they did a great job (original hem shows). It was also pretty cheap, under $20.
