AStart by trying your skirt with a sweater in pale blue, light gray, champagne or a shade of winter white. Then, do some research. One unusual (but helpful) source for the palette-challenged: modern-oriented home decor catalogues. They often highlight similar color combos to those in clothing catalogues and fashion magazines (which, of course, you should also check out) but in simplified, toned-down versions. Want more electric ideas? Style.com's "power search" function lets you look up by clothing item the outfits that designers sent down recent runways -- so you can see how they made their mixes match.
