Pictures, ideas and observations from our readers on the
great cicada invasion of 2004.
KidsPost isn't into squashing cicadas, just cicada rumors.
You may have heard that Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore is paying lots of money for blue-eyed cicadas. Well, it's not true. However, the blue-eyed bugs are cool, and rare: Only about 1 percent of all cicadas are fair-eyed.
Among the sightings by KidsPost readers:
• J.P. Kelley, 11, of Fairfax Station found one at church.
• Five-year-old Emily Hay of Arlington caught one, too.
• Alex Selengut, 8, of Potomac says he was surprised when he found his "white-eyed" cicada.
If you do find one of the rare cicadas, log on to to www.cicadas.info to report it.
