CANADIAN BEEF BAN

The Senate approved a measure (SJ Res 4) to keep the U.S. border closed to cattle from Canada younger than 30 months. Now before the House, the measure would block administration plans to resume Canadian beef imports this month. Meanwhile, a federal judge is keeping the ban in place at least temporarily. The U.S. Department of Agriculture ban was imposed in May 2003 after the discovery of mad cow disease in Alberta. A yes vote was to bar cattle from Canada.
