ALL DRESSAGED UP . . . And lots of places to go this fall, starting with the Metropolitan National Horse Show in New York ( Nov. 3-7). America's oldest indoor horse show features 80 hunter and jumper competitions, including musical free-styling by Olympic hopefuls on opening night. The Montpelier Hunt Races turn 70 on Nov. 6, where the experts compete in five steeplechase races like a 2 1/2-mile, $25,000-purse jaunt on Virginia's only live brush fence race course. Kids can race their own stick horses and watch canine rally obedience demos, reportedly a cross between car racing and "sit, Ubu, sit."
Montpelier tickets start at $10. One hour 45 minutes from the Beltway in Montpelier Station, Va. 540-672-0014, www.montpelier.org. Metropolitan tickets start at $10. Four hours from the Beltway at W. 55th Street and West Side Highway, N.Y. 866-647-7469, www.nhs.org.
