The Post 200 shines the spotlight on the top companies in Washington and the surrounding suburbs.

Every year the Washington Post evaluates hundreds of the area's largest public companies, private companies and financial institutions. Top local employers headquartered outside the region are considered as well.

Rankings are primarily determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to revenue, earnings, dividends, return on equity, asset size and market capitalization.

Strategic Failure
The market may be back up but the recent stock free fall and the surprising tale of MicroStrategy Inc. have hit the Washington technology region with a one-two punch that's left area executives reeling with a sense of reality.
