Coach Guy Smith had to make some difficult decisions this season at Huntingtown. After reaching the Maryland 3A championship game last season, the Hurricanes faced an unusual dilemma: too much pitching.

Thirteen seniors returned from last season's 16-9 team, including the Hurricanes' top four pitchers. Finding time on the mound for each of them, Smith said, can be difficult.

"We're trying to rotate those four guys in," Smith said. "They're all starters, but we're trying to use them as relievers, too."

So far, so good. Entering yesterday's rescheduled Calvert County Easter Tournament, with a starting lineup that always includes at least eight seniors, Huntingtown was 6-0, 3-0 in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference.

Left-handed senior D.J. Mascetti has led the for way for the Hurricanes, posting a 3-0 mark with an earned run average under 1.00. Offensively, Matt Baden is batting .540 and Joey Kavanagh has two home runs.
