An upscale home furnishings staple in Georgetown opens a second store today, offering the same high style at a fraction of the cost.

Maison Living is the second venture for Jean Pierre Sarfati, owner of Jean Pierre Antiques on P Street. The new store (which is next door at 2603 P St. NW) will stock mostly vintage European furniture as well as some newly made accessories. The pieces will be similar in style to Sarfati's expensive antiques but less precious and much more reasonably priced.

"I want to give the younger generation a boutique store with affordable prices," says Sarfati. The goal, he says, is to keep every piece under $1,000.

A browse through the store does not disappoint. Marble lamps start at $55 each; painted Chinese Chippendale chairs, $95 each; an upholstered Swedish bench, $995; a pair of cushy club chairs upholstered in chocolate mohair, $695 each. All chandeliers cost less than $600.

Even better: The palette is purposely neutral (everything in shades of brown and white), so the furniture fits anywhere instantly.
