THE APPLE, A DAY. New York Marathon, pshaw: Those who take on the full 20th annual Great Saunter (May 7 ) are in for a 12-hour, 32-mile stroll around the island of Manhattan. Yes, you can walk the shoreline under the skyline, along promenades on the East and Hudson rivers and through 20 parks, including Inwood Hill (near West 210th Street) and Carl Schurz near East 86th. No worries if you're not in for the long haul, as you can join in at any of five set locations staggered throughout the borough during the day, with the kick-off and finish line celebration at South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan.
