The comment came at a countywide meeting that attracted more than 500 people, both Democrats and Republicans, all of whom are concerned about development in Fairfax County and most of whom are not feeling heard by their elected officials in land-use and zoning decisions. Only one of the local supervisors even attended the April 19 meeting.

Instead, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald Connolly and Supervisor Linda Smyth were across town with a small, handpicked group of residents and planners who will decide the fate of Tysons Corner. This is the sort of group that Pulte Homes Vice President Stan Settle refers to when he talks about "community" input for MetroWest.

Marc Fisher has it backward: Davis represents how the community feels. Connolly is the one who has been overstepping and abusing his power as an elected official. The people who gathered at the April 19 meeting want responsible growth in this county.

As to the red or blueness of Fairfax, I am registered as an independent and have voted primarily as a Democrat since 1972. But since Tom Davis was bold enough to step up and listen to what is going on in his district, as of now I'm a Democrat for Davis. And I am a Disgusted Democrat when it comes to our board of supervisors and Chairman Connolly.
