Keeping In Touch at U-Md.

Communications software and systems company Avaya Inc . and the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business announced last week that they are expanding their research and development relationship. The New Jersey-based company will work with the school to develop a "virtual community" to make it easier for students, faculty and staff members to communicate. The first step in the project will allow participants to access a communications center -- using voice, Web or touch-tone technology -- to use calendars, voice mail, e-mail and faxes, and to schedule meetings or conduct conference calls.

Social Security on Agenda

The Prince George's Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking breakfast and a discussion on restructuring Social Security, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. May 19 at the Newton White Mansion. Guest speakers will include Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), JoAnne Barnhart of the Social Security Administration and Michael Tanner of the Cato Institute. The cost is $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers. The mansion is at 2708 Enterprise Rd., Mitchellville. For more information, call 301-731-5000.
