Everyone likes pretty pictures -- butterflies fluttering in the sunlight, mountains artfully reflected in crystalline ponds, snow piled atop sleepy farmhouses. We say: Get over it.

We're now accepting submissions for our sixth annual photo contest, this section's yearly attempt to put the kibosh on vacation-snapshot cliches. We ask only that you aim for "reality" -- and by all means avoid the obvious. Think you're up to the task? Well, you've come to the right place.

Now dazzle us.

One entry per person. Photo must have been taken in 2004-05. Write your name, contact info and a detailed caption on the back of the photo, not on a separate sheet. Photos, which are nonreturnable, may be color or black and white, and in the form of prints or photo-quality printouts. (Sorry, we can't accept slides or digital picture files.) Send prints or photo-quality printouts to Travel Section Photo Contest, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20071. Entries must be received by July 16. Photos become property of The Washington Post, which may edit, publish, distribute and republish them in any form. No purchase necessary. Post employees and their immediate families are not eligible.
