When the postseason opens this week for AAA Northern Region baseball teams, all four district titles will be up for grabs -- if the regular season races are any indication.

Three of the districts ended in dead heats and needed tiebreakers to determine a winner.

In the National, Edison (13-4, 10-2) was declared the winner over Mount Vernon (17-3, 10-2) after a coin flip. Lake Braddock (17-3, 11-1) won the Patriot by coin flip over Robinson (16-4, 11-1). In the Liberty, W.T. Woodson (15-5, 12-2) claimed first place -- with a better record against the district's third place team -- over Langley (17-3, 12-2). Only the Concorde had a clear winner: Oakton 15-5, 9-1) edged Westfield (16-4, 8-2) by one game.

The top two seeds in each district earn automatic byes to the district semifinals and berths into the Northern Region tournament.

"It's pretty rare, I can't remember any coin flips," Robinson Coach Bill Evers said. "I think you can make the case for a lot of teams. It's a really balanced region. I don't think there's one team that's going to run away with it."
