The Universities at Shady Grove

· Includes seven institutions in the University of Maryland system: Bowie State University, Towson University, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, University of Maryland at Baltimore, University of Maryland at College Park, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and University of Maryland University College.

· Offers 27 undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as certificate courses. Programs include business, nursing, computers, and hotel and restaurant management.

· Enrollment: 2,129 students; 1,553 undergraduate (679 are full-time day students) and 576 graduate; 42 percent white, 19 percent Asian, 17 percent black, 14 percent Hispanic.

· Demographics: 80 percent live in Montgomery County; 76 percent transfer from Montgomery College; 68 percent work full time. Average age is 27.

John Hopkins University

9601 Medical Center Dr., Rockville; http://www.jhu.edu/washingtonarea/mcc

· Offers graduate degrees in four schools: Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (10 degree programs); Whiting School of Engineering (14); Bloomberg School of Public Health (three); and School of Professional Studies in Business and Education (13).

· Enrollment: 5,082 students.

· Demographics: All students are part time; most work full time. Typical ages: 28-48.
