Q My 19-year-old daughter would love to run into a movie star in Los Angeles. We're also looking for affordable places to stay (not hostels).

A You can find Hollywood's A-to-Z-listers almost anywhere you look in Lalaland. "[Seeing actors] is more common than you might think," says Ted Johnson, deputy editor of V Life, Variety's lifestyle magazine. "If you look in the right places." To improve your odds, here are some star-studded venues:
· For shopping: Kitson boutique (115 S. Robertson Blvd.), the Grove mall (189 The Grove Dr.), Fred Segal (two locations, Melrose Avenue and corner of Fifth and Broadway in Santa Monica) and Barneys New York (9570 Wilshire Blvd.).
· For restaurants: Koi (730 N. La Cienega Blvd.) or Nobu (3835 Cross Creek Rd., Malibu) for sushi; the Little Door (8164 W. Third St.) for French romance; the be-seen-scene at the Ivy (113 N. Robertson Blvd.); the Grill (9560 Dayton Way); and the legendary Spago (76 N. Canon Dr.).
· For nightlife: Avalon (9400 W. Olympic Blvd.) in Beverly Hill's swank Avalon Hotel, Prey (643 N. La Cienega) and the Abbey (692 N. Robertson Ave.), a gay hot spot.
