When they fall down in the store trying to embarrass me into buying them something they don't need, I say: "I've got two words for you -- college fund."
During one such exchange, Olivia kept asking for something (I don't even remember what it was). I kept saying over and over again: "Two words -- college fund."
"Please, Mommy," she whined. "I know you have the money."
"You got that right. I have the money," I said. "Besides I've got two words for you -- college fund."
"Well, I have two words for you," Olivia said. "Nursing home."
True story.
