Normal service has resumed on Metro's Red Line after disruptions early this morning after a dead man was found on a stretch of Metro track near the Silver Spring station.

"There may be some residual back-up, but no real delays at this point," said Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein. She said trains were running out of Glenmont on a single track between 5:18 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. while the body was removed. For a brief period of time, the Forest Glen and Silver Spring stations were closed.

Farbstein said a Metro track supervisor discovered the body of the deceased man at 3:22 a.m. "Preliminary investigation seems to show he was hit by a train," Farbstein said. She said that apparently nobody noticed that the man had been struck at the time of impact. The body was found about a half mile north of the Silver Spring station.
