NORFOLK, NOTED. Music of many types takes over Norfolk, starting with saxophones and an Ambush Custom five-string bass at the Jazz Festival, July 15-16, where Paul Taylor, Spyro Gyra and the "Groovin for Grover Tour" jam on the waterfront. The Bluegrass Festival arrives July 30 with Dr. Ralph Stanley and His Clinch Mountain Boys, and others. The Navy town also hosts the Thank Goodness It's Ocean View music series, with free Big Band and other concerts on the beach every Friday evening in July and August (plus fireworks on July 1 ).

Jazz: Friday ($20) 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday ($25) 3 to 11 p.m at Town Point Park. Bluegrass: $15, 2 to 10 p.m. at Town Point Park. TGOV series: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Ocean View Beach Park. All about three hours from the Beltway in Norfolk. 757-441-2345,http://www.festeventsva.org.
