Correction to This Article
A caption for a 1974 photograph of a gas station in the June 19 Then & Again feature in the Magazine was incorrect. The Texaco station pictured, which has since closed, was in Alexandria, not Arlington.

(Bottom) There's gas, but it'll cost you. A station south of the Capitol advertises prices well over $2 a gallon.
