COLUMBIA, Md. -- NBA player Chris Wilcox has been arrested on a charge of transporting a handgun in a vehicle.

Howard County police say the arrest came about 1 a.m., after a traffic stop on Route 29 in Columbia.

A search turned up the .357 caliber revolver in a pocket behind the front passenger seat. Police also found live ammunition and spent shell casings inside the car. Police say Wilcox had no permit for the gun.

Wilcox is 22, lives in Laurel, and is a former University of Maryland standout who now plays with the Clippers.

Wilcox was released on his own recognizance and his passenger wasn't charged.
