At just 5 feet 3, Temeka Johnson can add a pull-up jumper over Sue Bird to the list of tough shots she has hit in her rookie season.
Leading by two, Johnson made the shot over the 5-9 Bird with 37 seconds left to lift Washington past the Seattle Storm, 78-71, yesterday as the Mystics won the first game of a five-game trip following the WNBA all-star break.
Johnson, who finished with 12 points, scored four in the final 94 seconds to give the Mystics (9-8) their sixth win in eight games.
"Usually Temeka is able to go by you. But her pull-up jump shot . . . it's amazing how she can get it off on bigger people," Washington Coach Richie Adubato said. "She's done that to people 6-foot, 6-1."
While Johnson was key in the final minutes, DeLisha Milton-Jones carried Washington for most of the second half.
Scoreless at halftime, Milton-Jones made all four of her three-point shots in the second half, finishing with 15 points. The four three-pointers were a career high.
"The opportunities were there and my teammates found me in the corner," Milton-Jones said. "Sometimes you just throw it up there and they go in."
Alana Beard also added 15 points for the Mystics, who improved to 4-3 on the road. Charlotte Smith-Taylor had 11.
The defending champion Storm (8-10) has lost six of its last seven, and fell to 5-3 at home.
Iziane Castro Marques led Seattle with 19 points.

She scored 11 points -- just enough to reach the mark -- hitting a 14-footer that banked in with 3 minutes 44 seconds left.
· FEVER 64, SUN 53: Tamika Catchings finished with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals -- the most steals by any player this season -- in Indiana's home win.
· MERCURY 82, STING 62: Diana Taurasi had 15 points and eight assists, and Anna DeForge added 19 points to lead host Phoenix.
