In some July 13 editions, a photo caption incorrectly said that the upcoming flight of the space shuttle Discovery will be the last mission of the shuttle program. The Bush administration intends to retire the shuttle by 2010. The caption also referred to Columbia, which broke up on reentry in 2003 in the previous shuttle mission, as Challenger.
A July 13 article about the Woodrow Wilson Bridge misstated the distance involved in the lane reductions on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway this weekend. The outer loop will be reduced to one lane for about a mile, not six miles, on the Virginia side of the bridge. Also, the article said a ramp to Church Street would close for three years starting this weekend. It will close for three years within the next month.
A July 13 Sports article misstated the result of the June 10 WNBA game between the Washington Mystics and the Seattle Storm. The Mystics defeated the Storm, 64-52.
A July 12 article said the FBI does not need a warrant to obtain a wide range of records from financial companies and other institutions, including libraries, under the USA Patriot Act. Such seizures do require warrants, which are issued in secret by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and are not subject to the same restrictions as a criminal warrant.
A July 8 Sports article incorrectly said that Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) expected legislation on steroids in high school and college athletics to pass during the current session of Congress. Davis said he expects legislation on steroid testing in major professional sports and possibly minor professional sports and NCAA Division I and II sports to pass this session.
