Off to See a Wizard

Hogwarts is imaginary, but Tannen's magic school really exists, and Robert Strong is one of the New York school's amazing graduates. Strong, who grew up in Frederick and started doing magic at birthday parties when he was 12, has performed for presidents as well as preschoolers.

Fire-eating? No problem! Knife- juggling? Bring it on! Floating audience members? Easy as pie! Pick-pocketing? Hey, where's my wallet?

Check out Strong's breathtaking act -- maybe even be part of it -- at one of nine "Hogwash" shows this month at the Smithsonian's Discovery Theater: July 23 at noon, and at 10 and 11:30 a.m. each day from July 26 through July 29. The theater is at the Smithsonian's S. Dillion Ripley Center, 1100 Jefferson Dr. SW, on the Mall near the castle. Tickets are $10 (members $9). For reservations or more information, call 202-357-3030.
