REGARDING YOUR item on driving to the Outer Banks [Coming and Going, July 17]: You recommended Route 301 as an alternate to I-95, but are you aware that Route 301 has 42 traffic lights in the 42 miles between Route 50 and the Potomac River Bridge?

Unless you are starting from Maryland, a better route is to take I-95 to Exit 130 at Falmouth, Va., and from there take Warrenton Road/Route 17 to Virginia Route 3, to Route 301. In fact, by turning right on Washington Street in Falmouth, just short of where Warrenton Road crosses Route 1, you can take River Road via an underpass to Route 3 and avoid any backup at the Route 1 traffic light.

There is a way to avoid both I-95 and Route 1 between Aquia (Exit 143) and Route 301, but out of consideration for the rural folks along that route I will not reveal it.

Disneyland

MY FAVORITE TIP for Disneyland and Disney World ["What a Ride!", July 17] will make no sense until you actually get down there: Stay left. There are always two lines/lanes going into each exhibit. People always line up on the right side of the ropes. If you go down the left side of the ropes, you will save an amazing amount of time not standing in line.
