Navy sophomore Keith Lisante , a backup inside linebacker expected to compete for playing time, quit the team yesterday to focus on academics less than two weeks after junior Ron Kimbrough , a reserve fullback, left the squad for the same reason.

Keith "felt like he was going to struggle academically, and I think what he wants to do and the way he phrased it to me is that he wants to take a year away," Coach Paul Johnson said. "I really don't worry about the guys who are not here. I coach the ones that are here."

Lisante, one of three freshmen to letter last year, was slated to back up senior Jake Biles, a job that likely falls to junior Anthony Piccioni , who played mostly on special teams last year.
