I am disheartened that The Post is co-sponsoring a Pentagon propaganda event ["Antiwar Activists Decry Media's Role in Promoting Pentagon Event," Style, Aug. 12].
"The event was never presented to The Post as a rally to support the war," spokesman Eric Grant says in the article. Please. Linking "supporting the troops" to commemorating Sept. 11, 2001, bolsters the administration's most fundamental distortion (repeated so often that most people believe it): that the war in Iraq was launched to fight the terrorists who attacked us.
While one can support the troops, as indeed most antiwar activists do, without supporting a particular war, does The Post think that's what the Defense Department intends?
If The Post is going to start sponsoring political events, I hope it spreads its name evenly across the spectrum of opinion on critical issues.
It could begin by endorsing the next major antiwar demonstration.

I applaud The Post for co-sponsoring the Freedom Walk, and I hope that people in both parties of all philosophies can join the spirit of the event, that we are all in this together. On Sept. 11, who wasn't inspired by the sight of Pentagon employees running toward the building after the attack to help save their co-workers?
Regardless of our views on the Iraq war, we owe a debt of honor to those who risk their lives for us and to their families back home.
I hope supporters and opponents of the war will reflect on this moment and join those honoring so many brave Americans with the "united we stand" spirit while we continue to debate our war policy.
