3 Plead Not Guilty In Conspiracy Case
Pentagon analyst Lawrence A. Franklin and two former officials of a pro-Israel lobbying group pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of conspiring to obtain and disclose classified defense information.
Steven J. Rosen, the former foreign policy director for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Keith Weissman, AIPAC's former senior Middle East analyst, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to communicate national defense information provided by analyst Franklin. Rosen also pleaded not guilty to helping Franklin pass on written classified information.
The three will be tried together Jan. 3 in federal court in Alexandria.
Rosen and Weissman are accused of disclosing the classified information to some members of the media, a senior fellow at a Washington think tank and at least three foreign-government officials.
Franklin had been indicted on similar charges but had to appear in court under a revised indictment. He repeated his plea of not guilty to five counts of conspiring to communicate classified information.

ยท The Pentagon has tapped a new commander to head the struggling Army Recruiting Command. Maj. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick will take command of recruiting operations Oct. 12, officials said. Bostick commanded the Army Corps of Engineers' Gulf Region Division in Iraq from June 2004 to June 2005. He will oversee 6,404 active-duty and 1,456 reserve recruiters.
