When the Bulldogs Have the Ball
Junior Lamar Manigo, who threw 61 passes in 10 games as a backup last fall, will lead a pro-style attack featuring six returning starters, including senior wide receiver Glenn Thomas and junior Dwayne Payne, who combined for 727 yards and 10 touchdowns last fall.
At running back, sophomore Issac Redman (475 yards, four touchdowns) and junior Nathaniel Queen will take over for Jordan Julius (548 yards, four touchdowns) and will run behind a revamped line. Redman scored three times in the season opener. Senior Jamal Berry moves from center to right tackle, and 6-foot-3, 307-pound sophomore Jerrick Jeffreys moves to center from left guard, which will be played by 6-foot-4, 366-pound transfer Robert Blocker.
The Bulldogs expect sophomore tight end Yeahmu Kyne (6-3, 237), who shifts from wide receiver after gaining 30 pounds in the offseason, to play a major role.
The key for the Bulldogs will be taking care of the football. Bowie State committed a conference-high 33 turnovers last year -- 11 inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
When Opponents Have the Ball
The Bulldogs return eight starters from last year's defense, which ranked last in the league against the run and the pass.
The unit revolves around senior outside linebacker Sterling Green (60 tackles, seven sacks), sophomore inside linebacker Chris Johnson and junior middle linebacker Marcus McLain. Lynn expects the threesome to flourish behind a defensive line that returns junior defensive ends Durrell York (28 tackles) and Devin Williams (17 tackles, three sacks), as well as senior nose guard Tyreve Smith (53 tackles, five sacks).
Senior free safety Alonzo Corbett (23 tackles, five interceptions), junior strong safety Terrence Stafford (55 tackles, one sack) and senior left cornerback Lamar Jones (21 tackles) return in the secondary.
