David Hillegas grew up in Chapel Hill, N.C., and graduated from Duke University in 1995 with a BA in Economics. Contemplating an uninspiring future in finance, he decided to move to New York City and start taking pictures instead. David started out shooting still life and interiors, but found travel photography to be his real passion. Over the next several years, he traveled through Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and North and South America, documenting different cultures and local color.

David's photographs capture the spontaneity and diversity that gives travel its allure. He recently displayed his work in a solo show at the Delgado Fine Arts gallery in New Orleans and was awarded a 2005 Photo Annual Award from Photo District News magazine for his Web site. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife Christine. This is his first trip to Russia.
