A graphic accompanying the Sept. 4 coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina incorrectly stated when levees were breached in New Orleans. The first breach was reported Monday morning.

A Sept. 4 article on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina incorrectly said that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D) had not declared a state of emergency. She declared an emergency on Aug. 26.

A Sept. 2 article incorrectly described the result of a June vote by the California State Assembly on a measure to allow same-sex marriage. The vote against the measure was 37 to 36, not 41 to 37.
CLARIFICATION
A Sept. 2 article describing the huge number of people displaced by Hurricane Katrina should have included a comparison with the 1927 flooding of the southern Mississippi River, which drove 325,000 to Red Cross shelters and may have uprooted as many as 700,000 altogether. This is the closest parallel to Katrina's impact.
