Junior quarterback Darius Reynolds, a junior varsity wide receiver last year, threw for four touchdowns last night in his varsity debut to lead No. 6 Hylton to a 42-0 season-opening win at No. 18 Stonewall Jackson .
Reynolds completed 9 of 12 passes for 135 yards. Seven completions went to senior wide receiver Marshall Dill, for 106 yards and three touchdowns.
Hylton scored on each of its first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead in the first quarter in notching its 10th straight win in the series. The game was a rematch of the 2004 Virginia AAA Northwestern Region Division 6 championship.
Pegues Is a Threat
In his first varsity start, senior Mike Pegues completed 7 of 9 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing touchdown as No. 11 Westlake defeated visiting Northern , 42-6, in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference game.
"I don't think anybody was threatened [by] me because they didn't know who I was," Pegues said. "I came out there and showed a little something, and I think they're going to think I'm a threat now."
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Pegues managed Westlake's offense almost to perfection. He completed his first five passes and led the Wolverines (1-0) to the end zone on all five drives in which he participated.
Poolesville Romps
Prior to last night, Poolesville senior RB Jared Christman's best game for the Indians was last season's final outing, when he ran for 165 yards. He nearly doubled that effort last night, busting loose for 293 yards on 26 carries in the Indians' 28-3 win over Brunswick in both teams' season opener. Christman carried the ball on nine of the first 10 offensive plays, his ninth carry going for 90 yards and the game's second score. . . .
Loudoun Valley RB Brock Bell also produced a career rushing night, carrying for 215 yards -- 190 in the first half -- in a 16-14 nondistrict win over Loudoun County.
Bell, a 5-foot-2 1/2 senior, had 24 carries for 102 yards all last season. He started last night in place of injured Tommy Schonder (sprained right foot).
