And if there's some random bug affecting some copies of IE that hides this command from the right-click menu, it's failed to affect any of the three Windows computers I use, the desktop PCs of three coworkers, and my wife's laptop. So what could it be? If there's some way I phrased that item that could be misread by readers, please let me know.

(Speaking of that Help File column, it also should have mentioned that the Firefox browser offers the same bookmark-sorting options as Opera. To access these choices, go to Firefox's Bookmarks menu and select Manage Bookmarks; then, in the "Manage Bookmarks" window, click the View menu.)

Signing Off of a Music Subscription

I've written at length in the past about the pros and cons of such subscription-based music services as Napster to Go, Rhapsody and Yahoo Music Unlimited. But I've left out one other wrinkle -- signing off of them.

Last week, I finally decided to close out a Rhapsody to Go subscription. I opened the Rhapsody software, signed in and clicked the "cancel subscription" link in its account-management window, only to get the following message:

"To cancel your subscription, please call us at 1-866-563-6157. Thank you, Real Customer Support. Our hours of operation are: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm - Eastern Time Saturday & Sunday, 10:30 am to 8:00 pm - Eastern Time."

(Note to Rhapsody: I *really* don't like that kind of bait and switch.)

I called, waited on hold for a couple of minutes and reached a human being. After asking why I was canceling -- I told him that I just wasn't using the service enough for it to be worth the money--his first reponse was to offer a free month of use. After that, he said, I'd be able to cancel online, without needing to make another phone call.

When I declined that (I'd probably forget to cancel in time, and I wasn't even sure I could trust Rhapsody to let me cancel electronically a month later), he asked if I'd be happier with a lower-cost subscription option. I said no thanks again, and then he gave up and processed my cancellation. Eight minutes after the start of my call, I hung up, then checked my e-mail and saw the confirmation of my cancellation.

So at least I did make a clean getaway, and with much less effort than would have been involved if, say, I'd tried to cancel an AOL account.
